<H1>Overview of AliRoot </H1>

<P>This page summarizes the status of <B>Version 3.01</B> that will be
released in May 1999.  More details can be found in the <A
HREF="AliRootHelp.html">User Guide</A>.

<P>The Geant3.21 based simulation program <B>galice</B> for the ALICE
detector underwent major changes in programming language, number of lines
of code, and supported platforms since its first release (Version 1) used
for the TP.

<P> Version 2 of the simulation program galice amounted to about 40 kLOC of
Fortran code and 10 kLOC of C++.

<P> Since then, the simulation program itself and the framework supporting
it underwent changes reported during several meetings, to come to the
present structure that it is believed can accomodate its <a href=
"http://www.cern.ch/alice/Projects/offline/fcaPresentations/plenary/sld001.htm">future
evolution</a>.
